  • Liquid Waste – is disposed of in appropriate, sealed containers after it is decontaminated with a high-strength disinfectant. The amount of contact time will depend on the chemical used and the material decontaminated.
  • Non/Transgenic Animals includes carcasses/tissues and insects not infected with infectious agents – these are placed in double bags and often biohazard containers, before being removed from site.
  • Animal Bedding – is to be placed in a biohazard waste container if the animal is shedding pathogens. Otherwise, Newark Technicians will dispose of in conventional methods.
  • Solid Waste contains biohazardous materials or lab waste that has come in contact with biohazardous materials. These include contaminated personal protective equipment, and plants including soil. The most appropriate disposal method is to place the material in an autoclave bag, seal and apply a “treated” label and place in black garbage bag for disposal.
  • Sharps: Dispose of in a sharps container.
  • Glassware: this can either be decontaminated for re-use or disposed of in a sharps container.

This method’s popularity is due to manufacturing speed, purity of finished product and relative low supply cost. The danger is liquid ammonia and sodium or lithium may boil explosively.

Marijuana

Newark Bio’s experienced Technicians follow a stringent schedule and ‘plan of attack’ to remove both drug residues previously not collected by Police, drug paraphernalia and laboratory equipment used in the growing and/or manufacture of illegal substances. Then, room-by-room all doors, walls and ceilings are wet washed with decontamination and neutralizing chemicals. If necessary, these may then also be removed from the property and disposed of, dependent on the extent of exposure. In the same way, all aluminium windows and door frames will be chemically treated to eradicate any future potential health risks.

Discreet operations, from the outside, grow ups look like any other house, but once you step inside, it’s a completely different matter. They’re not limited to residential homes but can be found on large blocks, farms and semi-industrial premises.

Marijuana grows in humid environments, and the plants have to be watered regularly, especially hydroponicsystems, which use even more water. Combined with lights simulating sunlight running continuously it causes wood to warp, mould to grow everywhere. These will be present not just superficially where we can see, but also under flooring and into walls.

Most modern homes don’t have attics, so ventilation is an issue. To solve this, growers will make large holes in ceilings and walls to install ducts and fans, thereby causing structural problems.

All this equipment requires a huge amount of power, so usually they will rig up their own wiring and often steal electricity from their neighbours. Not only that, but it creates a high fire risk.

The dangerous chemicals used in marijuana production (pesticides, fertilizers, etc) can get into the air and ingrain themselves in walls.
Newark Bio recognises cleaning a former marijuana grow up is a comprehensive and labour-intensive process, from top-to-bottom the entire property will be remediated and restored to pre-loss condition. Walk-in-robes will require all doors, shelving and internal walls cleaned; so too will living areas and additionally any linen and storage cupboards that are permanently fixed to the property both internally and externally.

All wet areas including benchtops, cupboards; both internally and externally are to be chemically cleaned as will the range hood, stovetop and oven as well as tiled floors.

Bathrooms and Laundry will require basins, bathtubs and tapware, mirrors, cabinets both internally and externally to be cleaned.

Newark Bio Technicians will conduct both pre and post-remediation tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) testing.

To ensure air quality returns to healthy levels, specialised equipment is used to filter and eradicate airborne contaminants and remove any residue moisture left as a result of both the drugs themselves and the cleaning process.
